The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Partnership.

We present a dare for long-term couples who enjoy scary movies: Sit down with your loved one and watch Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its streaming debut on the Hulu service. Outwardly, it may seem like standard biological terror, but within Together exists a deep examination about how we choose to love one another.

An Introductory Film Delving into Relationship Dynamics

Together represents the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, partners that have stayed together for a decade. Married in actuality in 2017, Franco and Brie infuse a particular energy to their characters, masterfully depicting both the strengths and weaknesses of a enduring union.

The plot starts when the couple transition from the urban environment to the rural area for her career. A familiar story element, admittedly, but that’s largely where the tropes conclude. Together evolves into as much a psychological exploration of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While hiking near their rural residence, a tempest descends, and the two fall into an hole in the earth. After spending the night there and eventually escaping, a strange force starts to affect the couple. This force creates a paranormal intimacy between them that goes exceeding typical partnership.

The entire film is a slow burn of scares, weaving in moments of hallucinatory nightmares, disturbing (but tastefully done) biological grotesqueries, and genuinely funny interactions (sometimes amidst something grotesque). Michael Shanks orchestrates these parts neatly and delivers them in a consistently growing aura of dread.

Nuanced Portrayals

A great deal of Together is solely the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Her self-assurance and sense of connection is suffering due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his hesitance to pursue anything but his failing musical ambitions gradually emerges.

In contrast, Tim's character feels trapped and isolated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve left the city and distant from his support system. He fears the notion of completely losing his individual identity in Millie. This fear is intensified by the reality he does not operate a vehicle and needs Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie never makes Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

The couple face the type of challenges that arise in long-term unions over a long period. Fundamentally, they have affection for each other. They find humor with each other, offer support, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the paranormal elements in Together symbolize these anxieties of excessive reliance and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the symbolism avoids being hamfisted or heavy-handed. Instead, these visceral horror elements present a brilliant analogue to the relationship narrative. Both the horror and the drama work together in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s ending, which remains unspoiled, has created disagreement on the movie's final takeaway about codependent relationships. It has been said that single viewers have interpreted the film as a strong argument for remaining unattached. Conversely, certain partners who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own interpretation could act as a revealing measure of how you think about commitment. Will the finale plant anxiety and horror, or a positive outlook on love? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and feel frustration, or simply glance toward your partner and utter, “I understand that choice”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an exploration you can undertake at this very moment.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform as of this moment.
